The Undergraduate Administration Team

The Undergraduate Administration Team consists of the Undergraduate Office and the Student Support Office.

The Student Support Office

The Student Support Office are here to offer advice and guidance on a range of matters in order to support you in your studies, including:

  • Providing advice about the different support services and procedures within the University, including queries about personal or family problems, learning adjustments,  accommodation, financial matters, etc.
  • Helping those with special circumstances to access support and to apply for special circumstances
  • Providing guidance on and facilitating changes to your programme, such as absences, authorised interruption of study, changing courses and degree programmes, and withdrawal
  • Providing documentation (e.g. letters confirming your student status, or for opening a bank account)

Along with your Personal Tutor, the Student Support Office is a first point of contact for pastoral care matters and enquiries related to your programme.

The Undergraduate Office

The Undergraduate Office deals with teaching-related administration such as course enrolments, tutorials, management of course materials, and assessment submissions. If you have any questions about the administration of your courses, you are welcome to get in touch.

Key Office Holders within the School

Senior Tutor

The Senior Tutor for 2019/20 is Ms Annie Sorbie.

The Senior Tutor has responsibility for ensuring that pastoral care is provided to all undergraduate students in the School, and that students are supported in personal issues as well as academic ones. The Senior Tutor liaises with the Student Support Officer and supports all Personal Tutors within the School. The Senior Tutor also works closely with the Director of Undergraduate Studies to ensure that students’ needs are met across the degree. The Senior Tutor can be emailed on Law.SeniorTutor@ed.ac.uk.

Director of Undergraduate Studies

The Director of Undergraduate Studies for 2019/20 is Dr Robert Lane.

The Director of Undergraduate Studies has responsibility for ensuring the delivery of the undergraduate degrees, including all aspects of teaching and learning. The Director of Undergraduate Studies chairs the Undergraduate Studies Committee, which meets regularly throughout the semester. The Director of Undergraduate Studies also represents the School’s interests at College level, and reports back to School accordingly. Any concerns about the LLB degree should be raised with the Director of Undergraduate Studies. The Director of Undergraduate Studies can be emailed on Law.UGDirector@ed.ac.uk.

Director of Graduate LLB Programme

The Programme Director of the Graduate LLB for 2019/20 is Dr Paolo Cavaliere.

The Programme Director of the Graduate LLB has special responsibility for students on the Graduate LLB, and represents their interests at Undergraduate Studies Committee Meetings and School meetings.

Director of Undergraduate Examinations

The Director of Undergraduate Examinations for 2019/20 is Dr Elisenda Casanas Adam.

The Director of Undergraduate Examinations chairs the Board of Examiners at which exam marks are finalised. The Director of Undergraduate Examinations ensures that assessment regulations are applied correctly and that the examination process has been carried out fairly. The Director of Undergraduate Examinations also chairs the Special Circumstances Committee, which meets prior to the Exam Board to discuss special circumstances cases submitted by students for consideration. Director of Student Experience

The Director of the Student Experience is Mrs Lindsay Jack.

Lindsay is tasked with creating a vibrant and distinctive culture for entry to and learning at Edinburgh Law School. She works with students and staff across a whole range of projects, including the Law Peer Assisted Learning Scheme (LawPALS), PreparED and all of our Widening Participation work. Lindsay works with the UG and Student Support teams, as well as the other UG Office-Bearers, and can be contacted about any issue relating to the LLB. Lindsay is also currently the School’s Director of Equality and Diversity, so can be contacted about any issues relating to inclusion.
