Law Commission’s 2023 Research Assistant Recruitment

Dear Students,

I am getting in touch as the recruitment for Law Commission’s 2023 Research Assistant campaign is now live. The Law Commission is the statutory independent body created to keep the law of England and Wales under review and to recommend reform where it is needed. Each year we recruit up to 18 Research Assistants to help us with our work ensuring the law is simple, fair and modern.

Joining us as a Research Assistant is a fantastic opportunity to master complex areas of law and help shape legal reform in England and Wales, whilst working side by side with the Commissioners. Our Research Assistants develop a range of skills and gain professional experience that is hard to obtain anywhere else.

The role is fixed-term for 51 weeks from September 2023, with the possibility of renewal for a further year upon application.

You may find the below posters (in English and Welsh) and our 2023 Guide for Applicants useful for advertising. The deadline for applications this year is 31 January 2023.

Full details of the role, eligibility criteria, and the application process can be found in our Guide for Applicants. Further materials, such as a ‘top tips’ document, CV template and a sample interview video are available on our website to help candidates perform well during the recruitment process.

If you have any questions about outreach, please do not hesitate to contact us. If your students have any queries about the role or the application process not answered by our guide, please ask them to contact us at recruitment@lawcommission.gov.uk.

Postgraduate Study: Your next steps 11 October 2022

Do you have any plans for life beyond your undergraduate studies?
  • Further study?  At Edinburgh or somewhere else?
  • Postgraduate research?
  • Found, or applying for, a job?
  • Too much coursework or other things going on in your life to even think about it yet?
  • Confused or overwhelmed about your options?
Thinking about your next steps and preparing for life beyond your undergraduate degree can be an exciting – but also an anxious or uncertain – time. That’s why we’re inviting you to join us for ‘Postgraduate Study – your next steps’, to break down the jargon busting terms, so you can make the right choices for you.
We’ll introduce you to some of the further study options at Edinburgh – and elsewhere. This will cover the various types of postgraduate study, from taught to research. We’ll help you think about how such study and research links to the world of work. But if you’re thinking you’d prefer going straight into a job after your undergraduate degree, we’ll also provide a broad outline of some of the Careers support and advice available right here on your doorstep to get you started.

So come along, listen – and chat – to our professionals and experts – including our friendly staff from Student Recruitment and Admissions, Careers, Funding and Fees – as well as current and recent postgraduate students, who’ll share their knowledge and experiences, and make you aware of some of the options available to you, in a relaxed and informal setting.

Date of event: Tuesday 11th October 2022
Timings for event: 5:30pm – 7:30pm
