The Student Counselling Service run presentation workshops on a variety of topics. These are being held online for 2020-21 and are open to all students. You can book a place on a workshop on MyEd.

The Wellbeing workshops, delivered online on Microsoft Teams, to groups of up to 12 students, are very short  introductions to topics,  and will not resolve the issues  but will help you find ways to start dealing with them. They last for one hour and 15 minutes and contain input from the facilitator as well as small group discussions and individual exercises for reflection and practice.  There will be a resource pack emailed out after each session.

Legal Summer Placement with The General Teaching Council for Scotland

Two-month fixed term contract – remote working

Salary – £1,521 per month (£3,042 in total). Salaries are paid monthly on the 25th of the month.

About GTC Scotland

GTC Scotland is a statutory regulatory body and a registered charity. It is governed by the Public Services Reform (General Teaching Council for Scotland) Order 2011 (the Order). GTC Scotland’s statutory role includes the registration and regulation of teachers in Scotland.

GTC Scotland has a small legal team, which forms part of the wider Regulation and Legal Services team. The team includes the Director of Regulation and Legal Services, Legal Adviser and Information Compliance Officer. The wider team includes three Regulation Solicitors and six Regulation Officers.

The role of the legal team is to ensure GTC Scotland acts within the bounds of its statutory functions, ensures compliance with all other legislative requirements (for instance in relation to data protection, freedom of information and information management), to manage litigation and to provide cross organisational legal advice and support.

About the Legal Summer Placement

GTC Scotland is seeking to appoint a student currently studying Scots Law to support the functions of the GTC Scotland legal team, as well as to provide the successful candidate with valuable skills gained from working within its busy in-house legal team.

The successful candidate will work directly with the GTC Scotland Legal Adviser. They would support the Legal Adviser in providing advice to various areas of the organisation, attending meetings with external legal advisers and/or internal clients, preparing papers for GTC Scotland’s committees and/or Council, undertaking legal and other research and assisting with the development of key projects, as well as assisting and supporting the Information Compliance Officer and wider Regulation team as required.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience within a small legal team and develop key skills essential for a future legal career.

The role would be by way of remote working, as all GTC Scotland employees currently work from home in line with Covid-19 restrictions. Depending on easing of Covid-19 restrictions the role may be fulfilled both remotely and in the GTCS Edinburgh office or entirely by remote working.

Key roles and responsibilities

GTC Scotland is looking for an enthusiastic Scots law student who is keen to get involved in the day to day work of the GTC Scotland legal team and taking on independent research and project work to assist and enhance the development of the team’s work.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and research skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Attention to detail; and
  • Ability to look for solutions, think strategically and bring new ideas on how to best develop process, policy and practices at GTC Scotland.

Your key roles and responsibilities will be to:

  • Assist the GTC Scotland Legal Adviser in various legal matters arising;
  • Assist the GTC Scotland Information Compliance Officer with Freedom of Information, Data Protection and Information Management tasks;
  • Take on research and development tasks to assist GTC Scotland’s legal team, as well as the wider organisation, in developing policy, practice and learning within the organisation;
  • Develop a working knowledge of GTC Scotland’s legislative framework;
  • Develop a working knowledge of GTC Scotland’s registration and regulation framework.

ESLR CO-EDITOR-IN-CHIEF RECRUITMENT

Both of the ESLR’s Co-Editor-in-Chief positions will become vacant on 1st July 2021. We are therefore opening recruitment to fill these two positions. Applicants must be full time matriculated students at the Edinburgh Law School for the full duration of the 2021/22 academic year. Both UG and PG students may apply. Past experience working for the ESLR in either a content editor or copy editor role is not essential but will be considered a significant advantage.
The duties of a Co-Editor-in-Chief include:
  • Recruitment of all other ESLR positions
  • Issuing the annual call for papers and conducting an initial sift of submissions
  • Leadership of the content editing process
  • Final decision on which submissions to publish in the annual edition
  • Line management of the chief copy editors, publication officers and finance officers
  • Compiling the master document and arranging publication of the annual edition
  • External liaison with Law School faculty, UoE Printing Services, UoE Law Library, financial sponsors, HeinOnline and the British Library legal deposit office
  • Ultimate responsibility for the financial and legal health of the ESLR
This role involves a significant additional time commitment on top of your studies, especially in the months of January to May. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate a willingness to prioritise the needs of the ESLR and explain how they will ensure their availability. International Scientific Conference: Legal and Economic Perspectives of Energy Cooperatives’ Development

The conference is organized by the members of the Faculty of Law and Administration at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poland (Department of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Protection Law). It is part of the ongoing research on the phenomenon of energy decentralization and creating energy communities, conducted from the perspective of legal and economic sciences.

 

Our event is addressed to every person who is interested in the idea of cooperative movement and in the renewable energy technologies.

 

We aim to create a space for scientifical discussion about the perspectives of energy cooperatives’ development. We believe that growth of the community energy sector is a key to sustainable development.

 

Our guests – the representatives of cooperative studies (law and economy) and cooperative networks from around the world will share their view on place and role of energy cooperatives in national energy systems and societies (i.a. USA, Brazil, EU members). The discussion will mainly focus on legal and economic determinants of increasing of the significance of energy cooperatives generating electricity from renewable energy sources (solar energy, wind energy, biogas plants).

The conference main themes are:

 

· legal aspects of creating citizen energy communities,

· legal status of energy cooperatives in different countries,

The UIA World Forum of Mediation Centres was created in 2001. It brings together the best commercial mediation practitioners and ADR centres from around the world, together with  managers,  academics, teachers, trainers, young practitioners, and all those interested in learning more about mediation.
