Traineeships 2024

The application process for traineeships commencing in September 2024 is now open.

The closing date for applications is midnight on Sunday 26 June 2022. Please note that selected candidates may be called for interview prior to the deadline and traineeships offered on a rolling basis.  Accordingly, early application is encouraged.

Dickson Minto offer two different types of specialist traineeships – one in corporate and one in commercial property.

The corporate traineeship includes a guaranteed six months in Dickson Minto’s London office and free accommodation and travel is provided.

The commercial property traineeship is based in Dickson Minto’s Edinburgh office and trainees will gain experience in both Scottish and English property law.

We are offering the opportunity for matriculated University of Edinburgh students to become involved in the EIJI’s Organisational Development (OD) team. Our OD team is composed of a variety of positions which oversee the day-to-day workings of the Initiative, ensuring that everything continues to run smoothly. These positions allow team members to develop key skills in teamwork, planning, and project development, while getting involved in public international law in non-research capacities.

Who Are We?

The Edinburgh International Justice Initiative (EIJI) is a student-run initiative that seeks to work with, and in support of, institutions focused on international criminal law, international human rights law, and international humanitarian law. We passionately provide pro-bono legal research assistance focused on strengthening the international justice system, as we ultimately look to make a practical and meaningful difference. In the past, we have worked with the ICC Defence Counsel, a digital evidence verification Database, and various human rights organisations and Government agencies in Mainland Europe, Venezuela, Nepal, and Cameroon.

Edinburgh Nightline, a confidential and non-judgmental mental health helpline run by students from 8pm-8am every night of term. We undergo extensive training and provide a listening support service for students from all universities and colleges in Edinburgh via our helpline or instant messaging service.

European Centre for Space Law (ECSL), which was established under the auspices of the European Space Agency (ESA) in 1989 to promote, enhance and foster capacity building in space law and policy across Europe. The ECSL call for applications for the 30^th edition of the Summer Course on Space Law and Policy is now open. Students and young professionals can apply until the 15 May 2022, 23:59 CEST.
The Summer Course offers a unique opportunity for students to delve into space law at an exciting pace, learning from experts in academia and industry and having the opportunity to showcase their own skills during a group project. The ECSL is co-organising the Summer Course with NOVA Law School in Lisbon, Portugal.

The Human Rights Lawyers Association’s (HRLA) Young Lawyers’ Committee (YLC) is pleased to announce the inaugural launch of the Lord Kerr Essay Competition 2022.

The essay question is on the following topical human rights issue: “Is eco-anxiety capable of amounting to torture or to inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, within the meaning of Article 3 ECHR?”
