Traineeships 2024

The application process for traineeships commencing in September 2024 is now open.

The closing date for applications is midnight on Sunday 26 June 2022. Please note that selected candidates may be called for interview prior to the deadline and traineeships offered on a rolling basis.  Accordingly, early application is encouraged.

Dickson Minto offer two different types of specialist traineeships – one in corporate and one in commercial property.

The corporate traineeship includes a guaranteed six months in Dickson Minto’s London office and free accommodation and travel is provided.

The commercial property traineeship is based in Dickson Minto’s Edinburgh office and trainees will gain experience in both Scottish and English property law.

The ECLAN Summer School on “The EU Area of Criminal Justice” online from 4 July to 8 July 2022

The ECLAN Summer School on “The EU Area of Criminal Justice” takes place every year in Brussels (Institute for European Studies – ULB). The next edition will take place online from 4 July to 8 July 2022.

Aim and Objective

The Summer School is specifically designed for practitioners, being lawyers, EU or national civil servants working in criminal matters, as well as researchers and students interested in the EU area of criminal justice. The objective of the Summer School is to provide participants with an extensive knowledge of EU criminal law. The classes are both theoretical and practical. They are taught by academics, national experts or European officials who deal with these issues on a daily basis.

The next edition of the Summer School will take place between 4 July and 8 July 2022.

Our OD team is composed of a variety of positions which oversee the day-to-day workings of the Initiative, ensuring that everything continues to run smoothly. The Edinburgh International Justice Initiative (EIJI) is a student-run initiative that seeks to work with, and in support of, institutions focused on international criminal law, international human rights law, and international humanitarian law. We passionately provide pro-bono legal research assistance focused on strengthening the international justice system, as we ultimately look to make a practical and meaningful difference. In the past, we have worked with the ICC Defence Counsel, a digital evidence verification Database, and various human rights organisations and Government agencies in Mainland Europe, Venezuela, Nepal, and Cameroon.

Edinburgh Nightline

Edinburgh Nightline, a confidential and non-judgmental mental health helpline run by students from 8pm-8am every night of term. We undergo extensive training and provide a listening support service for students from all universities and colleges in Edinburgh via our helpline or instant messaging service.

ECSL Summer Course on Space Law and Policy – Application period now open

European Centre for Space Law (ECSL), which was established under the auspices of the European Space Agency (ESA) in 1989 to promote, enhance and foster capacity building in space law and policy across Europe. The ECSL call for applications for the 30th edition of the Summer Course on Space Law and Policy is now open. Students and young professionals can apply until the 15 May 2022, 23:59 CEST.
The Summer Course offers a unique opportunity for students to delve into space law at an exciting pace, learning from experts in academia and industry and having the opportunity to showcase their own skills during a group project. The ECSL is co-organising the Summer Course with NOVA Law School in Lisbon, Portugal.
