Ms MacLennan, a strong supporter of Edinburgh Law School, will be reflecting on her own career path after graduating with a law degree from Edinburgh and welcomes questions from current Edinburgh law students.

VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITY IN CENTRAL AMERICA & GREECE SUMMER 2020

Do you want to help rural communities in developing countries across the world?

Do you have a passion for medical care, legal advice or public health?

Do you want to travel, do something fun and build skills for your CV at the same time?

Volunteer abroad in summer 2020 on one of our medical, public health/engineering, or legal brigades with our society Edinburgh Sustainable Projects Abroad!

ESPA offers 10-day volunteer projects to Honduras, Panama, Ghana and Greece, partnered with the charity organisation Global Brigades UK, a student-led movement which uses a holistic approach to empowering developing communities. GB focuses on working with local people to pave the way for sustainable development in improving healthcare, sanitation and legal advice.

Medical Brigades

Volunteers on medical brigades will have the chance to work with local qualified healthcare professionals in mobile clinics to help provide urgent medical care to communities who otherwise face many barriers to access healthcare in the city.

Legal Brigades

Volunteers will shadow qualified lawyers to help educate communities on financial, personal and legal affairs that may be affecting land-ownership, business or even marriage.

Public Health & Engineering Brigades

Volunteers will help to build hygiene stations and water systems to prevent spread on communicable diseases and educate communities on the management of medical conditions.

Greece Refugee Project

This is a new project where United Nations has requested help from GB to work with the Greek Ministry of Health to send volunteers to help give medical care to refugees.

No experience is necessary – all training will be provided throughout the year!

What are the roles?

– There are 2 very different HR placements available this year at JDE.

1.Talent Manager – Learning & Development (Hurley):

– Learning and development (L&D) play a key role in the development and administration of L&D programme

– Within Talent Acquisition, you will learn about sourcing and selection tools & techniques, and have responsibility for managing key aspects of JDE’s early-years recruitment

– You will be involved in student charities, raising funds and working across various parts of the business to develop your communication, project management and entrepreneurial skills

2.Human Resources (Banbury):

– You will work with the Manufacturing HR team, supporting the Senior HR Business Partner and 2 HR Business Partners with more traditional HR delivery.

– This will involve working on updating policies, employee relation cases, trade union communication, supporting change programmes, supporting engagement strategy, as well as day to admin handling such as new starters, on-boarding, updates etc.
