About FGHR

As a human rights initiative created by and for young leaders, the Forum for Global Human Rights provides a platform for those with keen interests in human rights research and advocacy to reinvent the space of human rights practice as an inclusive, interdisciplinary forum with a seat for students and young people at the table. In pursuit of this aim, we embrace a diversity of operation, including written publications, outreach and advocacy, a podcast platform, and pro-bono assistance to human rights organizations focused on advancing the protection of  human rights around the world. In so doing, we look to provide young leaders with a platform to engage with important missions and ideas in the space of human rights, and ultimately make a practical and meaningful difference. About the Organiser:

National Law Institute University (NLIU), Bhopal is one of the premier legal institutions established in the year 1997. The NLIU Cell for Law and Technology (NLIU-CLT) was constituted at National Law Institute University (NLIU), Bhopal in the year 2019. It aims to create and promote an environment of debate and discussion on issues relating to Technology Law. When it comes to the intricate interactions between technology and legal policy, the Cell wants to be ahead of the curve.

 

About Techtonic 2023:

The NLIU-CLT Law and Technology Fair: ‘Techtonic’ is a major flagship event annually organized by the NLIU Cell for Law and Technology. It provides a chance for aspiring lawyers to explore their talent as policymakers as well as gain insight into various technology law-related issues, plans and solutions. ‘Techtonic 2023’, which is the second edition of NLIU-CLT’s flagship event, is scheduled to be held from 24th – 26th February 2023. The two major highlights of this event are the NLIU-Ikigai Policy Case Competition and the NLIU-MeitY Round Table Conference. As part of the Event, some online competitions are also being organised, such as – Touch Their Hearts, TechTask, Scribbling Stratagem and TechKnow Quiz.

 

About the Online Competitions:

Students may participate in one or more than one of the total four Online Competitions being organised as part of Techtonic 2023:

1. TechTask
‘TechTask’ is an agreement drafting competition set in the future. The theme for the same is ‘Rent Agreement: Interaction with the Technologies of the Future’. Participants shall be required to draft an agreement between the landlord and the tenants in the year 2030 as per The Model Tenancy Act, 2021.

2. Touch Their Hearts
Touch Their Hearts is an online policy case competition. Participants shall be required to draft a policy proposal which benefits the underprivileged and marginalized sections of society. The theme of the Competition is ‘Access to Justice in Digital India’.

3. Scribbling Stratagem
Scribbling Stratagem is an online Policy Doodling Competition. Participants shall be required to find a policy solution to a problem and present the same in the form of a doodle art. The theme for the Competition is ‘Right to Privacy versus the New Social Media Ethics Code’.

Online Pupillage Event: 6pm to 7:30pm, Wednesday 18th January 2023

AllBar and Bringing My (Dis)Ability to the Bar are collaborating to host an online event to give advice and tips for the pupillage application process from a panel of current pupils.

We are delighted to announce the following panel:

Phillippa White (pupil at 1MCB)

The session will be informative and supportive for those gearing up for the pupillage applications season in England and Wales, giving tips for the whole process, from written applications to interviews. The event is open to all but will have a particular focus on assisting those who have a disability or a physical or mental health condition.

Following feedback, the event will be almost entirely a question and answer event. We are requesting that all attendees submit at least one written question in advance. Inspire

After the success of the first event last semester, Inspire is back in 2023! This event has been created to help level the playing field for all students.  ‘It’s not what you know, it’s who you know’ is a common saying when it comes to getting a job. And that’s all well and good for students who have the necessary contacts. But what about those who don’t?

Students will meet with top UK 300-ranked employers to make those all-important connections, learn about different opportunities in a range of fields, and access exclusive information and tips from recruiters and recent graduates about application processes.

Aspire to the Bar is new to 2023! Created exclusively for Black Heritage students interested in a law career, more specifically for those interested in becoming a barrister. Not enough chambers reflect the society that we live in and this needs to change. That’s why targetjobs has partnered with some of the UKs leading chambers to host Aspire, an event to help more Black Heritage students take several steps closer to their dream careers.

The National Justice Museum is the United Kingdom’s largest justice themed museum, operating out of a Georgian prison and Victorian courtrooms within Nottinghamshire, a range of universities and the police museum in the North-West of England and the iconic Royal Courts of Justice in Central London, and remains dedicated to assisting students with their future law careers, whatever form they may take.

As a result of this mission, we have collaborated with a retired judge within the British justice system and created a podcast featuring a diverse range of people within various integral roles within our glorious judicial offices. The second season is available to listen to (for free, of course) and we would love to offer you the link to share with your students. We believe it is our duty to educate and illuminate the intricacies of what real life is like working within our nation’s hallowed judicial halls. The highlight of the season is the finale interview with Kathrine Thirlwall, Lady Justice of Appeal. We can only hope that it helps your young scholars as they begin to help shape democracy and justice around the world. As a charity, we work exclusively on an external basis, seeking to add our voices to the cacophony of those seeking a fairer and more diverse world.

TITLE: (UG and PGT) Starting to Think about Dissertations and Projects

OPTION 1: 17^th January 2023 (17:15 – 18:45 UK Time)

DESCRIPTION: Moving from essays and assignments to larger based project work such as dissertations can often feel like a step into the unknown. This workshop will help to clarify dissertation/project expectations and provide practical strategies that you can use to optimise your dissertation experience.

 

TITLE: (UG) Managing and writing projects and dissertations

OPTION 1: 25^th January 2023 (13:30 – 15:00 UK Time)

DESCRIPTION: Do you have a longer written assignment to manage? A long essay or a dissertation to plan? Are you struggling to choose your topic? This workshop for UG students will discuss strategies for meeting the challenges of planning, organising and writing dissertations.  We will also look at methods and tools you can use to help you make a successful submission.

 

TITLE: (UG) Getting to grips with essay writing

OPTION 1: 25^th January 2023 (15:30 – 17:00 UK Time)

OPTION 2: 01^st February 2023 (13:30 – 15:00 UK Time)

DESCRIPTION: This workshop is for students who are relatively new to academic writing or for students who would like to go back to basics and rethink their approach to essay writing assignments. It aims to help you understand what’s expected of you, build confidence in your approach to academic writing and help you begin to tackle essays more effectively.

Our Insight Event has been designed for university students who are interested in pursuing a career in law to find out more about MacRoberts. Students will learn about the work we do, our different practice groups and the teams they could join if they choose to embark on a career with us.

This interactive, virtual event will allow law students to hear from MacRoberts employees about their roles and the different opportunities available across our firm. This event will also provide practical guidance on making applications for summer placements and traineeships, as well as some useful interview hints and tips.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to ask relevant questions of our speakers in a Q&A session.
