Trainees are provided with opportunities to gain their necessary qualifying work experience to qualify as Solicitors.

As a training partner, Accutrainee will continually monitor and assess both the work Scholars are conducting, as well as their development throughout their training period and be there to support them every step of the way.

We are currently accepting applications. The job opening can be found on the Jobs page of the Accutrainee website. The deadline for applications is 28 April 2023.

Applications for the 2023-2024 class of the MSc Maritime Science are open!

The Master of Science in Maritime Science is an inter-university programme developed by Ghent University (UGent) and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). It aims at students from diverse academic backgrounds, with a common passion for the maritime sector (be they from a scientific, economic, legal or other background) and who already hold a Master degree. People working in the sector itself may also benefit from the programme to enhance their knowledge and skills.

The programme itself comprises three main pillars: a technical/general pillar, an economic/logistic pillar and a legal pillar. It follows a multidisciplinary approach which makes it unique in the global academic landscape. As the maritime sector operates in a highly international environment, all courses are offered in English. The programme is taught by experts with international acknowledgements and experience. The strong interaction with the maritime sector through guest lectures and a significant amount of field trips (to ports like Ghent, Antwerp and Rotterdam, as well as a multiday trip to London) provides students with up-to-date information on ports and shipping and a global view of the maritime world.

You can find all relevant information on the website of our study programme as well as the Ghent University programme page.

About the Competition

Since its inception in 2012, the ADR Cell of the University has been organizing the National Mediation Competition. The event has already seen eight successful editions, with the 8th edition being a resounding success, for we garnered a quality participation of teams from countries such as the United Kingdom, Singapore, Brazil and Norway, along with all other top Law Schools of the country, in what was a tough competition among the cream of the crop of the student-legal fraternity.

The winners took home cash prizes worth INR 1,75,000 (USD 2,350) along with enticing gift vouchers such as receiving access cards of ADR-ODR International, SCC Online, Eastern Book Company Reader (EBC), etc.

About Lucknow

With the constraints due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we conducted our past two editions in online mode. However, given the global pandemic has subsided, and there has been a wave of normalcy, we are elated to have the opportunity to host you on our campus in Lucknow.

Lucknow is a city of kebabs and nawabs, of plan and history, of composing and culture. Apart from the delectable food and mesmerising architecture, the lofty monuments like Rumi Darwaza, Shah Baoli and the enriching history of Bara Imambara and the Jama Masjid, along with the sumptuous food of the town, your bucket list to do exciting things will be certainly fulfilled.

Additionally, the offline experience will be an unparalleled experience where you will be overwhelmed with the rush of back-to-back rounds, the real-time pressure and excitement of the competition, and a chance to fraternise with the best in the industry. We promise that this offline competition is filled with three days of learning, fun, and connections for a lifetime.

FORMAT:

  • A team shall consist of two members from the same university, one assuming the role of the mediator, while the other, the negotiator.
  • In its one-of-a-kind pattern, there shall be two mediators and two negotiators, all from different teams, competing against each other in a session.
  • Full time or part-time students pursuing the undergraduate or postgraduate programme are allowed to participate.

REGISTRATION:

There are two steps for the registration process for the competition, the application and the selection.

The application for a slot has to be made by filling the Provisional Registration which is a confirmation of the intention of the participation of a College/University. Please find the Link to Provisional registration, here.

After the confirmation of the intention to participate, the ADR Cell would send an acknowledgement mail, consisting of information about the Final Registration. The University will be required to complete the final process via a form that will seek details of prospective teams.

Thus, with the hope to find teams from your esteemed institution participating in our competition this year, with it being even bigger, better, and, best of all, an offline experience like never before, we take immense pride and pleasure in inviting your prestigious University to the IX 2TG-RMLNLU International Mediation Competition, 2023 that is scheduled to be held offline on the RMLNLU campus from 31st March to 2nd April 2023.

Macfadyen Lecture: ‘Human Dignity: A Purpose in Perpetuity’ 6:00pm on 23 March at the Royal Society of Edinburgh.

This year’s Macfadyen Lecture given by Justice Sikri, a former judge of the Supreme Court of India. He now serves as an International Judge at the Singapore International Commercial Court.

Human Dignity: A Purpose in Perpetuity

“Non-cooperation with evil is as much a duty as is cooperation with good and the tool which embraces it is human dignity”

—Mahatma Gandhi

Human dignity is now a central feature of almost all modern constitutions and international documents. In this lecture, Justice Sikri explores the three model(s) of dignity: theological, philosophical and constitutional. As a constitutional value, human dignity involves a person’s free will, autonomy, and their ability to write a life story within time and space. As a constitutional right, he shows how the fulcrum of all human rights lies in human dignity and the way that Constitutional Courts of various Nation States have carved out multiple facets of rights, utilizing the concept of dignity. Here his analysis is augmented by examples of comparative judicial pronouncements. Justice Sikri explores how human dignity can give full expression to the process of world peace. With these perspectives in mind, he calls human dignity a purpose in perpetuity.

The lecture will be held at 6:00pm on 23 March at the Royal Society of Edinburgh.

Tickets can be booked through Eventbrite here:
