Programme Representative Recruitment for Semester Two

I hope this message finds you well, and having had a restful Winter break!
This email provides details of the Programme Representative recruitment and registration process for Semester Two of the 2022/23 academic year.
Please note, we are only registering the following Representatives at this point:
- Course Representatives (also sometimes referred to as Class Representatives) for courses running in Semester Two of the 2022/23 academic year (as far as we are aware, only the Schools still operating a Course Representative system are Chemistry, the Edinburgh Futures Institute, and Law)
- Programme Representatives for programmes beginning in Semester Two of the 2022/23 academic year (as far as we are aware, there are only a small number of Postgraduate programmes or cohorts which begin in Semester Two)
A reminder that Programme Representatives are students who have been elected or selected to gather feedback from their peers and communicate this to relevant staff within their Programme, Department and School, both directly throughout the semester, and at Student Staff Liaison Committee (SSLC) meetings. Recruitment
A reminder that, for taught programmes – both Undergraduate and Postgraduate Taught – we recommend recruiting at least one Programme Representative per year of a programme, with larger programmes recruiting multiple Programme Representatives per year, at a ratio of one Programme Representative to every 40 students. At the Postgraduate Research level, Programme Representatives should be recruited, but may represent a research project, research centre, or department.
All eligible students should have the opportunity to volunteer as a Programme Representative, and the selection or election process should be fair and transparent. When advertising the opportunity, you can signpost students to this news article which outlines the remit and benefit of the Programme Representative role.
Registration
Once Programme Representatives have been recruited, their details must be shared with us so that we can begin their induction and training. This can be done by completing the template attached, ensuring you follow the instructions highlighted in yellow, and returning it to us via email at this address. The deadline for Programme Representative registration this year is the end of Week 2 (EOD on 27 January). Programme Representatives registered after this point may be unable to access training or recognition for their role.
Once your Programme Representatives have been registered, we will contact them via email to welcome them to their role, and invite them to complete their training, which this year will comprise of an asynchronous self-study module, followed by a live, online training session. Programme Representatives must complete both parts of their training by the end of Week 6 (EOD on 24 February). We will also add them to our Student Voice Online Hub on MS Teams, where they will have the opportunity to connect with other student representatives in their School and across the University.
Support
We will contact Programme Representatives throughout the semester regarding additional opportunities, including our calendar of personal and professional development workshops, and our reward and recognition schemes (including the nationally accredited Saltire Award for volunteering). However, you should ensure that you are communicating with them regarding opportunities within their School, and details of upcoming Student Staff Liaison Committee (SSLC) meetings.
