About the event

Antoine Parry, alumni and current legal assistant at the Court of Justice of the European Union, will be giving a seminar lecture on ‘The CJEU & Case Law Developments’. The discussion will centre on the institutional composition, the different legal procedures, and the developments on important principles of EU law through recent case law.

The event is highly recommended to those who wish to learn more about the Court of Justice, what are the current legal and political issues or tensions that the court faces, and how one might pursue a career in the European legal environment, in particular at one of the EU institutions.

About the speaker

Antoine Parry is the current legal assistant in the cabinet of Advocate General N. Emiliou at the Court of Justice of the European Union. In this capacity, he has worked on high profile cases concerning the protection of fundamental rights, the preservation of judicial independence in the Member States and the use of the preliminary rulings procedure.

He is often involved in organising cross-border legal events, in particular in his position as committee member for the European Circuit, and is the author of several publications. Over the past few years, he has taken part in podcast and panel discussions in an effort to encourage students to pursue a career in the European legal environment, while continuing to contribute academically in certain fields he finds particularly interesting: democracy, citizenship, constitutional matters and fundamental rights.

About the Alumni Perspective Series

Throughout the year, Edinburgh Law School hosts leading alumni to speak about their career paths since graduating and their perspectives on the key skills and attributes current law students need to succeed in their chosen fields.
