Join The Edinburgh University Mooting Society

The Edinburgh University Mooting Society would like to encourage all law students to join our society this year!

Mooting is a form of legal debate, modelled on real life court proceedings, where teams of two present persuasive arguments on a legal issue before a Judge. It’s as close to the real thing as we can get. For all 1st year students it’s also a great opportunity to practice before your assessed moots in first and second year. Due to the pandemic, we will be organizing a virtual competition this year.

We run two internal competitions every year with one especially for 1st years (the Junior Competition) and another for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th years and diploma students (the Senior Competition).

Mooting is a great skill for any lawyer to have and looks great on your CV because the skills are so transferable. It is also a fantastic networking opportunity and we have an excellent relationship with the Edinburgh Legal community. We have a number of cash prizes to award, and we will be running informative (virtual) talks throughout the semester and year on the art of legal practice.

Membership is just £5 for the year. We will be taking new members until 4 October. Simply send us an email or message us on Facebook to sign up! Tell us your preferred email address, student email address (for competition video calls), name, year, and what degree programme you are on. We will send our bank details for the fee transfer.

Best wishes,
