Students’ Association Semester 2 Update: Student Awards, Teaching Awards and Student Elections

Upcoming activities here at the Students’ Association – including our Student Awards, Teaching Awards, and Student Elections. Below is a summary of each activity, and we will be in touch with more detailed information over the coming months.

Student Awards

The Student Awards celebrate incredible student achievements across the University of Edinburgh. Students and staff can nominate individual students and student groups in a range of categories including Staff-Student Partnership, Student Leadership, and Contribution to the Local Community.

Nominations close on Monday February 3rd, and the shortlist will be announced shortly after, with the ceremony taking place on April 2nd at the Assembly Rooms on George Street.

Student Elections

Each year, Edinburgh’s 40,000 students elect over 50 student representatives, from full-time, paid Sabbatical Officer positions to Undergraduate School Representative roles. Having engaged student representatives can support Schools in building a strong sense of community, enhance communication between students and staff, and ensure that any student concerns are resolved quickly.

Our Elected Representatives regularly tell us that it was a message from a staff member in their School that let them know about our Student Elections and encouraged them to stand, so we are hoping you could help us spread the word by sharing the following short message either via email on social media.

Nominations are open now in the Student Elections 2020!

Becoming an elected representative is a fantastic opportunity to have your say on the issues that really impact students’ lives, gain valuable skills that will enhance your CV, and get more involved in the University community.

If you’re interested in giving a voice to students like you and representing [insert name of School] to the wider University then click here for more information on the roles available, and make sure you get your nomination in before midnight on February 19th!

You could also personalise your message by including information about the work of your elected School Representatives this year. If you would like an image to include in your email or post then please click here for a SharePoint folder with artwork in a variety of sizes.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email elections@eusa.ed.ac.uk, and thank you in advance for your support.

Teaching Awards

The Students’ Association’s annual student-led Teaching Awards are a fantastic opportunity for students to thank the staff who have supported them during their time here, both academically and pastorally. There are a wide range of categories including Outstanding Course, Teacher of the Year, and Outstanding Support Staff, and we know staff really appreciate and take pride in their nominations.

Any student can submit a nomination and we will arrange for any nominated staff to receive their official Teaching Awards badge, as well as a letter detailing their nomination. Nominations close on Monday, March 16th.

Digital resources for this project will be sent to you shortly. We have also created a nomination tracker which you can view through SharePoint – this includes a breakdown for each School per Award, and we will update it on a weekly basis until nominations close.
