Legal and Group Governance Services Summer Placements 2020

About Baillie Gifford

Baillie Gifford was established as an investment management partnership over 100 years ago. Today, with over 1,200 people based in Edinburgh, and more than 700 clients across the globe, we’re an independent investment management business with over £200 billion under management.

We do much more than just buy shares in companies. We think about a company’s potential to grow significantly in the next five to ten years, which is often influenced by many diverse and conflicting factors. Our work is a million miles from the stereotype of investors who track markets looking for short-term gains. Instead, we focus on developing a deep understanding of the underlying drivers behind potential investments. That means questioning everything that happens around us, and anticipating the consequences of local and global events.

Opportunities for law students

We offer summer placement opportunities in both Legal and Group Governance Services and each placement lasts between 8 to 12 weeks. You’ll receive tailored training and support, as well as a comprehensive induction and access to our learning and development courses. In addition, you’ll receive an introductory talk from a member of each team within the department. You’ll then be able to record all the achievements and skills you’ve gained in your learning journal.

Hands-on tasks might include maintaining and applying departmental precedent documents and checklists and supporting qualified lawyers by undertaking research into legal developments. You’ll also get the chance to assist with the implementation of various projects and participate in meetings.
