The distinguished speaker is Associate Professor Joanna Mossop (MacCormick Visiting Fellow). The title is ‘Future Dispute Settlement Procedures of Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction’.  Professor James Harrison will be joining the discussion and discussing the recent development underpinning the topic.  It will take place on 10 December at 3 pm, at Teaching Room 05, Old College.

 

Professor Joanna Mossop’s research interests lie in public international law, particularly the law of the sea. Joanna obtained her LLM in international law from Columbia Law School and taught courses in legal research and writing and appellate advocacy. Currently, She teaches the law of the sea and international dispute settlement at the Victoria University of Wellington. As a leading figure in the law of the sea and international dispute settlement, Joanna has been active in the Australia New Zealand Society of International Law including as a member of the ANZSIL Council and New Zealand Vice President. She is on the advisory board of several journals and has participated in a variety of international governmental and track two meetings on the law of the sea including maritime security and governance of marine biodiversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction. Joanna’s book, The Continental Shelf Beyond 200 Nautical Miles: Rights and Responsibilities, was the joint winner of the JF Northey Memorial Book Award, presented by the New Zealand Legal Research Foundation for the best book by a New Zealand-based author published in 2016.
